What does this mean for
your website?
Recent Google October 2014 Update:
Sites that appear in search results
on mobile devices that are deemed "mobile-friendly" are now accompanied
by a mobile icon (see attached image).
"96% of consumers say that they've
encountered sites that were clearly not designed for mobile devices" *Google
research study - "What Users Want Most from Mobile Sites Today"
Having a mobile optimised site
means Smartphone users are automatically redirected to a URL that looks
something like m.MySite.co.uk. The
“m-dot” before the URL means this is a separate version of your site that’s
been built to be more user friendly and simplified for a smart phone user. It’s separate from your regular desktop
website.
